BMW To Launch 5 New Models in January 2023

BMW just recently held the first edition of its JoyTown festival at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The automaker introduced three new models at this event, the S1000RR, the new XM performance SUV, and the updated M340i. But that doesn’t mark the end, as the auto maker confirmed at the event to launch more products before the end of January 2023.

The new models will be launched at BMW’s Mumbai and Bengaluru JoyTown events. The company has chosen to use it as a launch event most probably due to its non-presence at the 2023 Auto Expo. The automaker also stated that this is an effort to reach out to a wider audience. We take a look at the upcoming launches.

BMW 7-Series and i7

7-Series

The new seventh-gen 7-Series is a huge leap forward for the automaker. There’s an all-new design with a long, flat bonnet, BMW’s trademark kidney grille that’s taller and wider than before, and new split headlamps. Rest assured it’ll catch your attention when you see it.

However, it is the interior that’s the bigger talking point. The dashboard is dominated by the new frameless display for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. There are neat touches like the hidden air con vents and LED strip that runs the width of the dashboard that gives off a very premium feel. The rear seats are arguably even better, you get touchscreen controls on the rear door pads while a 31.3-inch, 8K screen flips down from the roof at the press of a button.

I7

In India, BMW will likely offer three powertrain options for the new 7-Series. A 3-litre inline-six diesel making 299 bhp, a 3-litre inline-six petrol that makes 380 bhp and a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine churning out 535 bhp.

Along with the 7-Series, the all-new i7 pure electric sedan is also expected to be launched as well. It looks similar to the 7-Series as it is underpinned by the same CLAR platform. The BMW i7 gets a 101.7 kWh battery pack that powers two electric motors, making 544 bhp of peak power. The electric sedan has a range of 625 kilometer on the WLTP test cycle.

BMW X7

X7

BMW has updated the X7 to resemble the brand’s new design language. This means there’s a new front end with a larger, taller kidney grille and a split headlight setup. On the inside, the SUV gets a curved screen setup that comprises a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The powertrain options for the have been updated as well. The 40i’s six-pot petrol now makes 380 bhp, an increase of 40 bhp. The base inline-six diesel has been tweaked to pump out 352 bhp, a whopping 87 bhp more than the current model. Both motors will be coupled to a 48V mild-hybrid setup that gets an electric boost of 12 bhp and 200Nm.

The interior of the 3 series Gran Limo has been updated as well with a new curved display for the infotainment system and instrument console along with a ‘leather’ covered dashboard.

BMW will continue to offer both diesel and petrol engines in the updated 3 Series Gran Limo, along with the addition of hybrid powertrains.

The new X1 will be underpinned by BMW’s FAAR front wheel drive platform, which has been extensively updated from the previous UKL. It is a more modular platform in nature which can be configured to a pure EV spec as well.

Moving to the inside, the new X1 gets a more upmarket cabin with an airier design and better materials. The new sloping dash and frameless curved display gives a very modern feel to the interior.
