The Indian 3-row SUV segment is set to receive two high-profile 7-seater SUVs within a single month. Leading the charge is JSW MG’s brand-new Hector Tomahawk EV, followed closely by Kia’s premium Sorento, giving family car buyers distinct choices.

New MG Electric SUV India

The Hector Tomahawk EV will be based on MG’s new ADAPT platform (derived from the global Wuling Eksion). It will be packed with a 69.2 kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor delivering 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer a single-charge range of up to 530 km on a single charge.

The SUV will come in 2+3+2 seating layout with bench-type split seats in the second row. It is expected to be packed with a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, an 8.8-inch digital instrument console, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, LEVEL 2 ADAS, powered tailgate, powered and ventilated front seats and many more.

Kia Sorento Hybrid SUV

Kia will introduce its full-sized Sorento SUV in the country this festive season. Positioned in the premium 3-row segment, the Sorento aims to challenge the segment leaders like the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.

The Kia Sorento will be offered with a strong hybrid system. It is likely to get the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol strong hybrid powertrain, paired with an electric motor to deliver smooth city driving and higher efficiency. The SUV is also likely to get a 2.2-litre CRDi turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The higher-spec variants of the SUV will also get an AWD system with multiple terrain modes - Snow, Mud and Sand.

In terms of size, the global-spec Kia Sorento is 4815mm long, 1900mm wide and 1700mm tall. The SUV rides on a 2815mm long wheelbase. The Sorento will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. The 6-seater version features second-row captain seats with individual armrests.
