Audi has announced that it has commenced production of the Q3 and Q3 Sportback in India. Both models will be built at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private plant in Aurangabad. The Q3 was launched in India in August last year, while the Q3 Sportback was introduced in February 2023.
Following the announcement, Audi also stated, “With this, the VW Group reiterates its commitment to Make in India and continues to enhance its product offering to meet the ever evolving needs of the discerning Indian luxury customer.”
The Q3 duo become the 5th and 6th models to be assembled locally in the country, following the A4, A6, Q5 and Q7.
Usually, a vehicle’s price drops the moment there is local assembly. This is not the case for the Q3 and Q3 Sportback with Audi India stating that there will be no price cut for both SUVs.
The price for Audi Q3 starts from Rs 44.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while Q3 Sportback comes for Rs 51.43 lakh (ex-showroom). Audi has also announced a 1.6 percent increase in prices across the entire range, while some select models have received a 2.4 percent hike that will come into effect from May 2023. The automaker has said the rise in input costs and custom duty are the reasons behind the hike.
This is the second price hike from Audi in 2023. In January, the German manufacturer had increased prices of all models by 1.7 percent, citing “rising supply-chain-related input and operational costs”.
Both the Q3 and the Q3 Sportback are powered by the same engine. It is a 2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine churning out 188 bhp with 320 Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
In India, the Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback rivals the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40, and the Mini Countryman.
