BMW India has recently revealed its 5 Series Long Wheelbase (LWB) version in the country. Slated to launch on July 24, the next-gen BMW 5 Series will be a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB which is also due to be launched at the year-end.
The biggest highlight of the next-gen 5 Series is its larger size than the outgoing model. Measuring 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,520mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,105mm, the next-gen 5 Series is greater than the E-CLass LWB which is 5,092mm long, 1,880mm wide, and 1,493mm tall with the wheelbase of 3,094mm.
Another interesting fact is that the new BMW 5 Series will be tagged '5 LWB' and not the 'Gran Limousine' which was tagged for the 3-Series previously.

From the design perspective, the new 5-Series will feature an updated kidney grille, sharper bumpers, and 18-inch alloy wheels with multi-spoke design. The 19-inch wheel size will also be available as an option. The wrap-around tail-lamps will now have a simple and slim horizontal strip, making it look cleaner than its older design.
The interior layout will be minimalistic, similar to what we have seen in iX. There will be a large screen comprising a 14.9-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch driver display unit.
Other premium features might include multi-zone climate control, an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats with power function, USB-C charging points, and Level 2 ADAS.
As for the powertrain, the new 5 Series is likely to come with 520d and 520i guise, same as the outgoing model. However, it is expected to be available with 530d and 530i in M-Sport guises. All these engine choices will be ZF-sourced 8-sped AT transmitting power to rear wheels. Prices for the new BMW 5-Series LWB will be somewhere between Rs 85 lakh to Rs 1 Crore (ex-showroom).
