As per social media teasers, Build Your Dreams aka BYD is gearing up for a new trim addition to its Atto 3 compact e-SUV, breaking cover on July 10. It is going to be an aggressively priced entry-level variant featuring a smaller cell pack, multiple sources claimed. The current iteration of Atto 3 is solely available with a 60.8 kWh starting at Rs. 33.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

Going by media reports, the upcoming avatar will house a smaller 50 kWh cell pack, likely blade type. While it is bound to lose several kilometres at 450 km with the drop in battery size, it will help BYD get a cost advantage and price it under Rs. 30 lakhs. Now that Hyundai has discontinued the Kona, this brings it close to MG ZS EV territory which has its top-end Essence DT (50.3 kWh) model priced at Rs. 25.20 lakh, ex-showroom.
Although there have been no reports of exterior changes, its ground clearance may be noticeably different due to the smaller battery. Besides power reduction, the SUV might see a subtraction in certain features already on offer like 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, air filter, seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS.
