The wait for Honda’s next big model in the Indian market is almost over. The Japanese carmaker is set to introduce its global flagship, the Honda ZR-V, on May 22, 2026. To be positioned as a premium crossover, the new ZR-V will bridge the gap between mass-market SUVs and luxury offerings. Here are the top things you need to know about this upcoming hybrid SUV.

1. Launch Date

Honda has officially locked in May 22, 2026, for the simultaneous launch of the all-new Honda ZR-V and the facelifted version of the 5th-gen Honda City. The ZR-V will be the brand’s new strategy of bringing global products via the CBU route to showcase its engineering prowess.

2. Hybrid Powertrain

The India-spec Honda ZR-V will feature the brand’s sophisticated 2.0-litre i-VTEC Atkinson cycle engine paired with a dual-motor e:HEV strong hybrid system. This hybrid system offers a combined power and torque output of 181 hp and 315 Nm, respectively. The system allows for electric-only driving in city traffic, switching seamlessly to hybrid or engine-only modes for the highway. It is expected to offer a mileage of around 22-25kmpl.

3. Built on the Global Civic Platform

The new ZR-V SUV is built on the versatile Honda Architecture (HA), the same platform that underpins the global-spec Civic and CR-V. This platform ensures the SUV handles like a low-slung sedan rather than a boxy-shaped SUV. It features a sleek crossover silhouette, a coupe-like roofline and a honeycomb grille.

4. Spacious and feature-packed cabin

Inside, the Honda ZR-V gets Honda’s “Man Maximum, Machine Minimum” philosophy. It is packed with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 9-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV gets a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and a powered tailgate. It also has Honda Sensing, LEVEL 2 ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and collision mitigation braking.

5. CBU Route: Estimated Price and Rivals

The ZR-V will be launched as a fully imported (CBU) model, and will command a premium price tag. We expect the new Honda ZR-V to cost somewhere between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. It will directly rival the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
