Hyundai Motor India Limited has signed an agreement with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. to explore how hydrogen-powered vehicles can be used widely in India. This move supports India’s efforts to reduce pollution and move towards cleaner energy.
As part of this partnership, Hyundai has given one Hyundai NEXO, its hydrogen fuel cell car, to Indian Oil. The vehicle will be tested on Indian roads for the next two years, covering around 40,000 km. The goal is to see how well the car performs in real-world conditions.
The testing will also include a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) study. This means Hyundai and Indian Oil will look at how much it costs to run and maintain the car. These insights will help decide if hydrogen cars can be a good option for Indian drivers in the future.
Globally, Hyundai offers cars with many types of engines, including petrol, CNG, hybrid, electric, and hydrogen. This partnership shows Hyundai’s commitment to building a hydrogen-friendly environment in India, working towards a future that is cleaner and more energy efficient.
Hyundai is also working with IIT Madras to build a Hydrogen Innovation Centre. This centre will help startups and car makers test new parts and ideas. It will support green hydrogen projects and encourage new thinking in the field of clean energy.
With this partnership, Hyundai and Indian Oil are taking big steps to bring hydrogen cars to India. The NEXO’s road test could be the start of a new era of clean, green mobility in the country.
