Hyundai Boulder SUV Concept debuts at the New York Auto Show Previews brand's new body-on-frame architecture SUV and a Pick-up truck will be introduced by 2030
Hyundai has finally revealed its new Boulder SUV Concept at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. The new Hyundai Boulder Concept showcases the brand’s new body-on-frame architecture, which will be utilised to deliver a production midsize pickup by 2030. This pickup will mainly target the U.S. consumers seeking trucks and SUVs capable of serious off-roading, towing and hauling. The company will also introduce its SUV derivative simultaneously.
The Boulder’s construction and appearance is giving us an indication of Hyundai’s future design vector. The Hyundai Boulder Concept’s creation was led by the Southern California based team at Hyundai Design North America. The company claims that “this design study was developed with a specific focus on catering to the desires of off-road enthusiasts and the goal of attracting new buyers to the Hyundai brand.”

Hyundai has not revealed specifications or powertrains for the Boulder. However, the platform is likely to be compatible with different powertrains, including electric, internal combustion and hybrids.
The Boulder Concept is based on Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design philosophy. The company claims that the Boulder’s boxy design gives the SUV “aggressive approach, departure, and breakover angles” along with a “generous fording depth”. It rides on 37-inch mud-terrain tires, and has a full-size tailgate mounted spare wheel. The tailgate has a double-hinge that opens in either direction and a power drop-down rear window.

Hyundai said that “Boulder has been designed to be a blank canvas onto which accessories can be easily added, simultaneously enhancing functionality and better reflecting the owner’s personal taste.” There is a software-driven real-time off-road guidance system in the SUV that facilitates confident off-road adventuring.
The new Hyundai Boulder cabin uses robust materials for key touchpoint including grab bars and other high-wear areas. It has physical knobs and buttons for different functionalities, which are easy to reach even when bouncing over uneven terrain. The SUV has a configurable interior, which also has a unique fold-out tray tables.

The cabin lacks a traditional display for the gauges, instead it shows key information at the bottom of the windshield. It has roundish dashboard that houses four small square displays with physical controls.
