Hyundai Boulder Off-Road SUV Design Patented in India

Hyundai Boulder off-roader could arrive in India First Hyundai to be based on body-on-frame architecture

We informed you earlier that Hyundai will launch an all-new off-roader in the Indian market. Details of the off-roader SUV are yet to be disclosed. Interestingly, Hyundai India has filed a patent of the production-spec version of the Boulder off-road SUV concept. For people not in the know, the Boulder concept debuted at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. This SUV debuts Hyundai’s first body-on-frame architecture for a pickup truck, which is scheduled to be introduced in the US market by 2030.

The patent image reveals that the off-roader looks largely identical to the Hyundai Boulder concept. It retains the body design and rugged proportions, off-road tyres, squared-off fenders, massive cladding and L-shaped C-pillars. However, the front fascia receives the maximum changes. The patent has two small square-shaped lights flanked by vertical LED strips, while the concept had large dual-headlamp setup.

The patent has a closed-off grille design instead of slotted grille cover in the concept. Its lower bumper is completely new and houses a new skid plate that sports small rectangular slats. The SUV gets squared-off wheel arch cladding, and differently styled wheels. Instead of the roof-mounted light bar in concept, the production-spec Boulder in patent gets a large roof rack with limb risers. At the back, the SUV gets a large tailgate-mounted spare wheel and dual tail-lamp clusters.

Interior Details - CONCEPT

The company hasn’t revealed the cabin layout. The new Hyundai Boulder cabin uses robust materials for key touchpoint including grab bars and other high-wear areas. It has physical knobs and buttons for different functionalities, which are easy to reach even when bouncing over uneven terrain. The SUV has a configurable interior, which also has a unique fold-out tray tables. The cabin lacks a traditional display for the gauges, instead it shows key information at the bottom of the windshield. It has roundish dashboard that houses four small square displays with physical controls.

Hyundai has not revealed specifications or powertrains for the Boulder. However, the platform is likely to be compatible with different powertrains, including electric, internal combustion and hybrids.
