Kia Carnival Hybrid to launch by Diwali 2026 Honda to launch a new 7-seater hybrid SUV Hyundai Palsiade hybrid confirmed for 2028

As fuel costs rise and stringent emissions, major automakers are shifting their focus toward cars equipped with strong-hybrid technology. Combining high fuel economy with long driving range and zero range anxiety, strong hybrid powertrains are quickly becoming the preferred choice for big Indian families. 


Here is a quick look at five major 7-seater hybrid models set to launch in the Indian market in the next couple of years -


1. Kia Carnival Hybrid


Kia Carnival Hybrid India


Powertrains: it will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with an electric motor and six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This turbo petrol engine produces 180 hp and 265 Nm of torque. The electric motor adds another 73.4 hp and 304 Nm of torque. Higher-spec variants could also get all-wheel drive. 


Key Highlights: Positioned as a premium MPV, the Carnival Hybrid will be sold alongside the current 2.2-litre diesel engine. It is packed with VIP captain seats, Ottoman leg rests, dual sunroofs, LEVEL 2 ADAS features and high-end fuel efficiency.

2. Honda 7-Seater SUV


Powertrain: It will be packed with a 1.5-litre I-VTEC petrol engine with e:HEV dual-motor strong-hybrid system, which offers a combined power and torque output of 126 PS and 253 Nm, respectively. 


Key Highlights: To be based on Honda’s modular platform, the upcoming 7-seater SUV targets popular family models. Featuring Honda’s two-motor strong hybrid setup, it aims for fuel efficiency figures of over 25 kmpl along with flexible 6-seat and 7-seat cabin. 


Launch Timeline - 2027-28


3. Renault Bigster/Boreal 


Renault 7-seater Boreal India


Powertrain: it will share the hybrid powertrain with the soon-to-be-launched Renault Duster. The Boreal will get the new 1.5-litre strong hybrid E-Tech powertrain, which combines a 1.8L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors ( a traction motor and a starter-generator), and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The combined power and torque output stands at 160 bhp and 172 Nm, respectively. The system will be paired with a multi-mode clutchless automatic transmission. 


Key Highlights: the Bigster will bring rugged styling, high ground clearance and boxy proportions. It will offer a tech-focused cabin with features like digital instrument console, panoramic sunroof and flexible three-row seating. The 7-Seater Renault SUV can run on pure electric power up to 80% of time in city traffic, and expected to offer a driving range of nearly 1000km on a single tank.

4. Hyundai Palisade


Hyundai Palisade Hybrid India


Powertrain: It is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain that offers 334 hp and 460 Nm of torque. 


Key Highlights: Palisade will be Hyundai’s flagship 3-row SUV. It features a Range Rover-esque boxy profile, vertical LED lighting, and a dual-screen interior setup. This 2.5L turbo-hybrid system delivers a claimed total driving range of over 1000km on a single tank.


Launch Timeline: 2027-28


5. Seven-Seater Maruti Grand Vitara & 7-Seater Toyota Hyryder


Powertrain: 1.5L 3-cylinder NA petrol + Toyota’s hybrid powertrain. This system combines a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a 0.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. The petrol engine offers 91 bhp of power, while the electric motor is rated at 79bhp. 


Key highlights: The SUV will operate on pure electric mode at low speeds, switching to petrol or a blend of both as demand increases.
