Built On Bespoke E-GMP skateboard platform To be priced lower than its sibling, the Kia EV6 To be offered in both RWD and AWD Variants
Hyundai, the second largest automaker in the country, will be launching the Ioniq 5 at the Indian Auto Expo in January 2023. The brand has announced the start of bookings for the new electric SUV from 20 December 2022.
The Ioniq 5 is the sibling to the Kia EV6 that was recently launched in India at a price of Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom). However, unlike the EV6 which is a CBU, the Ioniq 5 will be locally assembled in the country.

The design of the new Ioniq 5 closely resembles Hyundai’s 45 EV concept that was showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. The retro styled EV features flat surfaces, sharp lines, and highly raked windscreens. The front and rear lights get a pixelated design while the 20-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels are intricately detailed.

The Ioniq 5’s interior gets a minimalist layout with flexible seats, a flat floor and a movable center-console that can slide back and forth by up to 140 mm. Hyundai will also use sustainable materials like fabrics from recycled plastic bottles and eco-friendly leather and bio-paint in the making of the electric SUVs body and interiors.

The dashboard of the Ioniq 5 gets a pair of 12-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, a HUD with AR functions, ADAS and digital screens in place of ORVMs.

The Ioniq 5 is offered with two batteries pack options, 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, globally. Both the battery packs are available single and dual motor setups. Internationally the Ioniq 5 is available with 170 bhp to 305 bhp of peak power output based on battery motor configuration. However, it is yet to be seen which option will be coming to India.
The Ioniq 5 with the 58-kWh battery pack claims 481 km in the WLTP cycle, or 383 km in the official test cycle. The Ioniq 5 supports 800V super-fast charging, which can charge battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
