Kia is all set to launch the Carens Clavis EV in India on July 15, 2025. This marks the brand’s entry into the growing segment of affordable 7-seater electric vehicles. The launch has created a lot of buzz, and here's why this upcoming EV is grabbing attention.

The Carens Clavis EV will look very similar to the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis. However, there are some changes that will set the EV apart. These include:
- A closed-off front grille
- A revised front fog lamp housing
- Geometric alloy wheels
- A new front bumper with the charging port at the centre
Despite these minor updates, the overall design remains close to the ICE (petrol/diesel) version, which helps keep production costs lower.
Inside the cabin, the Carens Clavis EV carries over the same premium look from its ICE sibling. Highlights include:
- Sleek dual-screen layout for the instrument cluster and infotainment system
- Two-spoke steering wheel
- Smartly finished two-tone dashboard
- Redesigned centre console with more storage space
The EV will likely be offered only in a 7-seat layout, making it a practical choice for larger families.
Kia has confirmed that the Carens Clavis EV will come with two battery options:
- 51.4 kWh battery with a claimed range of 490 km
- 42 kWh battery with a range of around 390 km
Performance-wise:
- The long-range version is expected to have a 169 hp motor
- The standard-range version may get a 133 hp motor
- Both variants will be front-wheel-drive and offer V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) bi-directional charging
Kia will also offer its i-Pedal driving technology, a one-pedal system that allows drivers to accelerate, decelerate, and stop using just the accelerator. The system will include three levels of regenerative braking, similar to what we’ve seen on the Hyundai Creta EV.
In higher variants, the regenerative system may also work in sync with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
The Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to start at around Rs 19–20 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the ICE version of the Carens Clavis starts from Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
This EV will be India’s first locally manufactured electric MPV, giving it a unique edge in the market. It will slot below the BYD eMax 7, which starts from Rs 26.90 lakh.
While the Carens EV won’t face direct competition at launch, it will go up against several upcoming and existing electric SUVs and crossovers, such as:
- Hyundai Creta Electric
- Maruti Suzuki eVX / e Vitara
- MG ZS EV
- Tata Curvv EV
- Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
- Mahindra XUV 7e / BE.06
- Future EVs from Honda, Skoda, and Volkswagen
