Kia India has launched a new trim of the Carens MPV. Dubbed the Luxury (O), the new variant is priced between Rs 17 lakh to Rs 17.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand has introduced the new trim to bridge the gap between its top two variants. We take a closer look.
The Kia Carens Luxury (O) sits between the MPVs Luxury and Luxury Plus trims. Compared to the former, it gets added features like a sunroof and ambient lighting which changes according to the selected drive mode. However, while the Luxury trim is offered in both 6 and 7-seater variants, the new Luxury (O) is available only as a 7-seater.
In terms of features, the Carens Luxury (O) gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a digital instrument cluster, USB-C fast charging ports, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel and cooled cup holders for the first two rows. The variant does miss out on a few equipment when compared with the top Luxury Plus trim like an 8-speaker Bose audio setup, ventilated front seats, and paddle shifters.
Kia recently updated the Carens’ powertrain options to comply with the New BS6 Phase II Emission Norms. Kia Carens Luxury (O) is being offered with both petrol and diesel engine choices. The former is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor making 160 bhp with 253 Nm of peak torque while the oil burner happens to be a 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit that delivers 115 bhp and 250 Nm torque. The particular trim MPV is an automatic-only variant, with choices between a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The Carens Luxury (O) petrol, DCT variant is priced at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Luxury (O) diesel, automatic trim costs Rs 17.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The Carens competes against the likes of Maruti Ertiga and XL6.
