KIA Motors India has issued a recall for 44,174 units it Carens SUV to inspect and fix any potential error in the airbag control software. Sharing an official press release the company stated that it has detected issues with a fixed batch of cars and will contact owners from that back individually. Once the customers have received their intimation, they can visit their respective Kia dealerships or log-in to their KIA Connect app and schedule an appointment for the recall.
The automaker also added that the voluntary recall campaign is being undertaken to inspect the issue and also provide a software update, where required, free of charge. This is the first time the Carens has faced a recall. Previously, the KIA Seltos was recalled twice (2019 and 2020) for a suspected fuel pump issue.
The Kia Carens is the latest offering from the Korean automaker in the Indian market and currently commands a waiting period of 10 months. Prices for the Carens range from Rs 9.59 lakh to Rs 17.70 lakh (ex-showroom). The MPV comes equipped with two powertrain options, a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The former churns out 138 bhp and 242 Nm. The diesel unit pumps out maximum power output of 113 bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. Transmission duties are taken care by a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT on the petrol variants and diesel is 6-speed manual or 6-speed auto in the diesel variants.
