In a major upset in the auto industry, Mahindra & Mahindra has managed to beat Tata Motors in terms of passenger car sales in the month of September 2024. In the month of September 2024, Mahindra sold 51,062 cars in the passenger vehicle category. On the other hand, Tata Motors sold 41,313 passenger cars in September 2024.
The homegrown UV maker sells around 51,062 utility vehicles in the passenger category in the month of September 2024 as against 41,267 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a Year-on-Year (YoY) sales growth of around 23.74%.
In the period of April-September 2024, Mahindra sold a total of 2,60,010 units as against 2,14,904 units in the same period last year. The sales could further increase on the arrival of the new Mahindra Thar Roxx. Bookings for the new Thar Roxx will commence from 3rd October 2024. Mahindra had released the prices of the Thar Roxx 5-door on August 15, 2024. The SUV is available with two engine options - a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo diesel.
Tata Motors sold 41,031 passenger cars in the month of September 2024, reporting a YoY sales decline of 8.36 percent. The company sold 44,809 units in the same month last year. The company reported its lowest sales figures for a month since December 2022. In fact, Tata's month-on-month sales declined by 6.98 percent from August 2024, when it reported a total sales of 44,142 units.
The big update is that Tata's electric vehicle showed a massive YoY decline of 22.64%. The company sold 4,680 EVs in September 2024 as against 6,050 units sold in the same month last year. Tata Motors has recently introduced the Curvv EV and Curvv ICE versions in the country. Moreover, the Nexon EV has received a larger 45kWh battery pack and more features.
