The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra is preparing to launch multiple new SUVs, including the new-gen Bolero Neo, Thar facelift, XUV700 facelift and XEV 7e. The upcoming 3-door Thar facelift has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The spy images reveal key details of the lifestyle SUV’s styling, interior and features.
The Mahindra Thar facelift is expected to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. The SUV will rival the 3-door Force Gurkha and the Maruti Jimmy.
The spy images suggest that the Mahindra Thar facelift design changes will be inspired by its larger sibling, the Thar Roxx. The updated model comes with a heavily revised front fascia, featuring a new grille inspired by the 5-door Thar Roxx. It will continue with the signature round headlamps, but they will be LED projector units. The SUV will receive updated LED tail-lamps and newly styled 5-spoke alloy wheels.
The new Mahindra Thar facelift will retain the all-black interior scheme, but it will have multiple new additions. The dashboard will be dominated by a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It is likely to get a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, which is also available in the Thar Roxx.
The power windows switches will be placed on the doors. In the current model, the power window switch control panel is placed on the lower centre console. The higher-spec model could get automatic climate control.
The new Thar facelift is likely to be equipped with new features such as automatic AC and an updated premium sound system. For safety and security, the SUV will have 6 airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto dimming IRVM, electronic stability control, hill start and hill assist control., and a roll cage. The SUV could also get ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and others.
The Thar facelift is likely to be offered with 3 engine options - a 2.0-litre, turbo petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The turbo petrol engine produces 152PS and up to 320Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The 1.5L turbo diesel engine produces 118 PS and 300Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.2L turbo diesel engine offers 132PS and 300Nm. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are on offer.
