Mahindra has confirmed August 15 as the official launch date of the Thar Roxx. The five-door SUV is one of the most anticipated vehicles to arrive next month and heavily camouflaged test mules have been spotted several times. Besides a longer wheelbase, the upcoming Thar will boast nameplate segment-first features, details of which are yet to be confirmed by Mahindra.
Apart from the suspension setup, multiple reports have confirmed that it will borrow the Scorpio N’s ladder-frame platform for enhanced off-road capability. This directly translates into a roomier cabin for up to five passengers as compared to the three-door Thar. The alloy wheel size has been raised to 18 inches, likely in the top trims, with a dual-tone machined finish. We could also spot its rear door handle mounted on the C-pillar, which is a Thar-first feature.
The homegrown automobile manufacturer has revamped the Thar’s cabin with features reportedly including a touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display measuring 10.25-inch each, wireless charging and a panoramic sunroof. Safety has been prioritised with the addition of a Level 2 ADAS suite and 360-degree cameras for surveillance. It is also expected to score high in crash tests as has been the case with its latest line of SUVs.
Three engines will be offered with the Thar Roxx, including two doing duty in the Scorpio N. A 1.5-litre diesel engine will be reserved for the rear-wheel drive model, while the borrowed 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel blocks will feature a 4x4 drivetrain mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
