In a YouTube video shared by Prateek Singh on Wednesday, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was seen undergoing crash testing at a Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) facility. However, the agency has yet to post the results of the same on its website. Reports suggest the compact SUV will get at least four stars. Stay tuned to CarLelo for the official scores.
The Grand Vitara, based on the Global C platform, also underpins cars including the Brezza which scored a four-star rating in 2018 in the erstwhile regime of Global NCAP. With major carmakers like Tata and Mahindra shifting to extremely safe cars, Suzuki will aim to up the safety quotient of its vehicles, which has been controversial over the years.
Launched on October 1, 2023, the Indian New Car Assessment Program, more commonly referred to as BNCAP, is the country’s voice on vehicle safety. Cars of varying body types are crash-tested and performance is assessed on safety features and technologies. Then, a star rating is given out of five to indicate relative safety performance. The BNCAP is developed for a significant reduction of road facilities and serious injuries in survivable crashes.
“The new safety regime under BHARAT NCAP and AIS-197 is a mutual win-win for manufacturers and consumers,” Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet earlier.
