Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the Swift CNG, expanding its commitment to eco-friendly driving solutions. Priced starting at Rs 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Swift CNG is available in three distinct trims: VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi. It also marks the debut of CNG in the Z Series engine-powered Swift launched in May.
With the addition of CNG, the Swift is priced at a premium of Rs 90,000 over its petrol counterpart. The pricing structure for the new CNG variant is as follows -
|
Variant |
Price |
|
VXi |
Rs 8.20 lakh |
|
VXi (O) |
Rs 8.47 lakh |
|
ZXi |
Rs 9.20 lakh |
One of the standout features of the Swift CNG is its improved fuel efficiency. The vehicle boasts a mileage of 32.85 km/kg, marking a 6% increase compared to its previous generation K-Series model that had a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder unit under the hood. Notably, transmission duties will be handled by the tried-and-tested five-speed manual gearbox. The output from this setup is 69.75hp and 101.8Nm.

The Swift CNG introduces the new Z12E petrol engine with CNG compatibility for the first time. Unlike the latest models from Hyundai and Tata, which feature twin-cylinder CNG technology, the Swift CNG continues with a traditional mono cylinder in the boot.
The new Swift CNG has achieved a 6% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the outgoing model, aligning with Maruti's commitment to sustainability, Autocar reported.
VXi: Six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), remote central locking, halogen projector headlamps, 14-inch steel wheels and power windows.
VXi (O): This mid-level variant adds a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and steering-mounted controls.
ZXi: The top-end ZXi variant includes LED projector headlamps with DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless charging, automatic climate control and a rear washer/wiper.
Since the launch of the petrol variant four months ago, Maruti Suzuki has sold nearly 67,000 units of the Swift. The introduction of the Swift CNG is expected to bolster sales further, leveraging its enhanced fuel efficiency and broad feature set. The initial deliveries are set to begin this weekend in Gujarat, with subsequent rollouts planned for other states.
Maruti Suzuki aims to solidify its position in the CNG segment, targeting annual sales of 6 lakh CNG vehicles. The company has already sold 2.21 lakh CNG cars from April to August 2024. The Swift’s previous generation saw 15% of its sales coming from CNG models, a figure Maruti expects to exceed with the new iteration, the report added. With its combination of efficiency, affordability, and features, the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is poised to be a strong contender in the growing CNG vehicle market.
