Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, and Honda India are gearing up to launch new 7-seater SUVs in the Indian market. These SUVs will rival popular models like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. However, these upcoming vehicles will be more of 5+2 seater SUVs, offering a temporary third-row seating option rather than true 7-seater configurations. The new models are expected to hit the Indian market by 2026-2027.
Let's take a look at the upcoming 7-seater SUVs:
Both Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are planning to launch their 7-seater SUVs. The one that Toyota will launch is expected to be a 3-row version of Hyryder. Although it will be longer in size, it is yet expected to share a similar design as Hyryder. Meanwhile, Maruti will bring the 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara which is currently available only in a 5-seater layout.
Both 7-seater SUVs from these brands will be built on the Global-C platform. As for the powertrains, both could get the 1.5L K15C petrol mild-hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid. This set of engines is powered by the current Grand Vitara and Hyryder. Since these upcoming SUVs will be larger in size, both automakers should use the 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol unit which is offered in Innova Hycross. However, the probability of this is quite low.
Apart from the aforementioned car brands, Honda is also aiming to launch its 7-seater SUV in the Indian market. The brand is currently developing a global platform, codenamed PF2, for its future cars. Speculations suggest that the upcoming 7-seater could be based on this new PF2 platform. Expected to be launched in 2027, the new model will be positioned above Honda Elevate. Design and powertrain details are yet to be revealed. However, we expect it to get the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine offered in Elevate. It could also get the hybrid powertrain available in City Hybrid.
