Mercedes GLC Electric bookings open in October Launch planned for India by year-end with local assembly 490hp, 800Nm and up to 715km claimed range
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the new GLC Electric in India by the end of this year. The company has confirmed that bookings for its new electric SUV will open in the first week of October. The model will also be locally assembled in India.
Mercedes-Benz says the GLC Electric will reach India within six months of its European sales debut, making it the fastest a global model has been brought to the country as an assembled vehicle.
The Mercedes GLC Electric is expected to arrive in India towards the end of 2026, with bookings opening in October. Local assembly is likely to help the company keep the electric SUV's price competitive in the luxury EV segment. The GLC Electric will be sold in India in the 400 4Matic version. It gets a dual-motor setup that provides all-wheel drive and produces 490hp and 800Nm.

The electric SUV uses a 94kWh NMC battery pack and has a claimed range of up to 715km on the WLTP cycle. Performance is also a strong point, with Mercedes-Benz claiming a 0-100kph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. Despite weighing more than 2.5 tonnes, the GLC Electric can deliver strong acceleration. Rear-wheel steering will also be offered as standard.
The GLC Electric coming to India will use the standard wheelbase version, measuring 2,972mm between the front and rear axles.
Mercedes-Benz also offers a long-wheelbase version of the electric SUV in China, which gets an additional 55mm of wheelbase. However, the company has decided against bringing this version to India.
The biggest highlight of the cabin is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. Mercedes-Benz says it is the largest display it has ever fitted to a car. The screen stretches across the dashboard and combines the driver's display, central touchscreen and passenger display. The latest version of the MBUX system also gets cleaner menus and a built-in AI assistant.
Mercedes-Benz has also moved back towards physical controls, with buttons and knobs used for some functions on the steering wheel and centre console. The cabin still remains largely digital, while wood trim on the centre console and lower dashboard adds a more traditional feel.
Since the GLC Electric will be locally assembled, it is expected to be priced more competitively than a fully imported model. The expected price could be around Rs 80 lakh-Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Mercedes GLC Electric will face competition from the upcoming BMW iX3 in India. The BMW electric SUV is expected to arrive next year and will be offered in a long-wheelbase version for the Indian market.
With bookings starting in October and the launch planned for the end of the year, Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its electric vehicle range in India with a premium SUV offering a long claimed range and strong performance.
