MG Motor India is preparing to introduce its third electric car, after the ZS EV and Comet EV. The new electric offering is likely to be named the MG Cloud EV. It will be based on the Wuling Cloud electric MPV, currently on sale in Indonesia. The electric vehicle will be re-badged as MG and will receive some India-specific changes. For the Indian market, MG will launch this Cloud EV by the end of this year. Dig more to know about its expected price, range, and its launch timeline.
Currently, MG India has two electric cars in its portfolio. The Comet EV is the most affordable one, priced between Rs 6.98 lakh to Rs 9.36 lakh while the ZS EV belongs to their premium product starting from Rs 18.98 lakh and going up to Rs 23.43 lakh (ex-showroom).
The upcoming MG Cloud EV will be positioned somewhere between the Comet and ZS. We expect the new model to cost around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Globally, the Cloud EV is offered with two battery packs - 37.9 kWh and 50.6 kWh. While the smaller battery pack offers a range of 360 km, the larger one offers a maximum 460 km range. However, for the Indian market, MG has not confirmed which battery will be offered.
The aforementioned range is based on the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC-claimed). But, for the Indian model, expect it to offer a different range to meet Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) standards. We believe that the electric MPV could offer a range of over 400km on a single charge.
With the partnership between MG Motor India and JSW, we will get to see new electric cars in the Indian market. One of these will be an MG Cloud EV which is expected to be launched during the 2024 festive season. Upon launch, the 5-seater EV will be a premium alternative to the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV.
Apart from this, MG Yep Plus could be another EV to arrive in the Indian market by the end of this financial year.
