We reported earlier that Jeep has started working on the next generation Compass SUV, which is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2025-26. A new media report claims that the production of the next-gen Jeep Compass will begin in 2025 and will first go on sale in Italy. Stellantis has announced that it will invest around US$ 2.1 billion in local operations (Italy) next year alone. The investment will be used for the production of the next-gen Compass and three other models from Alfa Romeo.
The new generation Jeep Compass will be produced at the brand's Melfi plant (ITA). It will be based on the STLA Medium platform instead of the Small Wide 4x4 platform used by the current generation produced in Goiana (GO). The new STLA platform currently underpins new breed of cars including the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland. This architecture is flexible enough to accommodate different types of engines including ICE, hybrid and electric.
Jeep has not released details about the new-gen Compass. However, it is expected to grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. This modular platform can accommodate vehicles with lengths between 4.3 and 4.9 meters, and wheelbases of 2.7 to 2.9 meters. The existing model is 4.4 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.63 meters. This suggests that the next-gen Compass will ride on a longer wheelbase, which allows Jeep to offer more passenger and cargo space.
The report reveals that the Italian production of the 2026 Compass will begin next year, with launch expected shortly thereafter. This facility will be used to export the new Compass to other European countries as well as markets in the Middle East and Oceania.
We reported earlier that Jeep has no immediate plans of launching the new Compass based on this new platform in India. Stellantis will have to make huge investment to localize this architecture, which is not viable keeping lower demands for Jeeps in India. In fact, Jeep is planning to use Citroen's CMP architecture for its future compact SUV for our market.
