New-generation Mitsubishi Pajero is expected to debut later this year. SUV could get diesel, mild-hybrid, and PHEV powertrain options. A new ladder-frame platform promises improved off-road capability.
Mitsubishi is getting ready to bring back the iconic Pajero SUV in an all-new avatar. The SUV is part of the company's global plan to launch 13 new models by FY2031 and is expected to make its global debut later this year.
Known as the Pajero, Montero, or Shogun in different markets, the SUV has built a strong reputation over the years for its rugged design and off-road capabilities. The upcoming fifth-generation model aims to carry forward that legacy while adding modern styling and new technology.

The new Pajero gets a completely fresh look while retaining its tough SUV character. At the front, it features slim LED daytime running lights connected by a light bar, along with Mitsubishi's signature grille design.
The SUV also gets vertically stacked headlamps, a muscular bonnet, and a rugged bumper. Large alloy wheels, squared wheel arches, roof rails, and side steps further enhance its road presence.
From the side, the Pajero gets a clean profile with blacked-out pillars that create a floating roof effect. The rear features connected LED taillamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a redesigned bumper. Unlike older Pajero models, the new SUV does not have a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.

One of the biggest updates is expected to be underneath the body. Reports suggest the new Pajero will use a ladder-frame chassis derived from the latest Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck.
This setup is expected to make the SUV more capable off-road while also improving durability. The new platform could help the Pajero compete more effectively with modern body-on-frame SUVs around the world.
Mitsubishi has not yet confirmed the powertrain options for the new Pajero. However, reports indicate that the SUV could be offered with multiple engine choices depending on the market.
Potential options include a twin-turbo diesel engine, a 48V mild-hybrid setup, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The hybrid variants are expected to improve fuel efficiency while maintaining the SUV's performance and touring capabilities.

Once launched, the new Pajero is expected to take on premium SUVs such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Ford Everest, and Isuzu MU-X in international markets.
With its combination of rugged hardware, modern design, and electrified powertrains, Mitsubishi will be looking to attract both adventure enthusiasts and family SUV buyers.
The Pajero continues to enjoy a loyal fan base in India, even years after it was discontinued. However, Mitsubishi has not confirmed any plans to bring the new-generation SUV to the Indian market.
