Japanese automaker Toyota has just unveiled the first official pictures of the 9th-gen Camry. The next-gen sedan gets a fresh exterior design, an updated interior with added features, and a revised range of powertrains. We take a closer look.
The new Toyota Camry retains the overall silhouette of the last-gen model but does get some new and distinct styling elements. From the front, the sedan features the brand’s “hammerhead” design with slim LED headlights and DRLs. Sitting below it is the new, larger air dam that gets horizontal chrome slats. The side profile is largely unchanged while the rear end features new LED taillights and a redesigned boot lid.
Moving inside, the next-gen Camry gets an all-new dashboard layout. There’s a 12.3-inch infotainment unit (8-inch unit on lower variants) and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The sedan will also come loaded with features like a JBL audio setup, digital key, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, heads-up display, and multi-zone climate control.
In terms of safety, the new Camry will get Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 bundle, which includes ADAS features like lane departure alert with steering assist, road sign assist, auto high beam, lane tracing assist, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and more.
Toyota cars has revised the next-gen Camry’s powertrain options, with the petrol V6 option being discontinued. It is now available with a single strong-hybrid option that pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, making a combined peak output of 225 bhp. The AWD variant adds a third electric motor to the rear axle and bumps up peak power slightly to 232 bhp. Transmission duties are handled by an eCVT automatic gearbox.
The next-gen Toyota Camry is slated to go on sale in North America by early 2024. In India, the current-gen Camry was recently updated, and doesn’t look like it will be replaced anytime soon. Expect the 9th-gen Camry to reach our market around late 2024 at the earliest.
