Renault Bridger Design Patented in India: Launch in 2027

Renault to launch Bridger in 2027 Bridger design patented in India To rival Jimny and Mahindra Vision S

Renault India has officially announced that the Bridger SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2027. As of May 25, 2026, official design patents for the Renault Bridger have been filed in India. This marks the first major step toward the production of the upcoming lifestyle SUV.

The new Renault Bridger will be positioned between the Kiger and the newly-launched Renault Duster. It will be Renault’s direct answer to the growing demand for rugged, sub-4 meter lifestyle SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming Mahindra Vision S.

The patented design reveals production-ready version of the Bridger. The SUV looks largely identical to the Bridger Concept that debuted in March 2026..

The production-version Bridger gets an upright, boxy silhouette with squared-off wheel arches and chunky body cladding. The SUV gets a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and a side-hinged rear door. It comes with a uniquely-styled LED DRL (Daytime Running Lamp) signature and rectangular-shaped headlamps, which looks similar to the new Duster.

The patent images suggest that the SUV will have two fuel filler caps, one on each side. This suggests that Renault is designing the platform to accommodate both internal combustion engines (ICE) and a future Electric (EV) powertrain.

RGMP Platform

The Renault Bridger will be based on the new Renault Global Modular Platform (RGMP) that also underpins the new-gen Duster SUV. This architecture is designed to handle rougher terrains and provide better structural rigidity. This platform is compatible with 4WD drivetrain; however, it is early to comment whether the Bridger will get this tech or not.

Performance and Powertrain

The new Bridger is expected to be offered with multiple powertrain options. It is reported that Renault is developing an all-new 1.2L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine for the subcompact SUV. The engine will essentially be a derivative of the 1.3L TGDi petrol engine (with a shorter stroke) that currently powers the Duster.

The new powertrain will use a more cost-effective multi-point fuel injection system (MPFi) instead of the direct-injection setup in Duster’s 1.3L engine. This will also make it compatible with CNG fuel. The SUV could also get the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with manual and CVT options.

Launch Timeline and Competition

The production-spec model of the new Renault Bridger is expected to be revealed sometime in early 2027. The near-production model could debut at the 2027 Delhi Auto Expo, and its launch is expected by mid next year.  The Bridger is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom.

The new Renault Bridger will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Maruti Brezza, and the upcoming Mahindra Vision S concept based lifestyle SUV.
