Renault Bridger SUV – 1.2L Turbo Engine, Hybrid-Ready & EV

Renault Bridger will arrive in India by 2027. Turbo, hybrid, and EV options expected.

In March 2026, Renault unveiled the Bridger concept, previewing its upcoming compact SUV for the global markets. The carmaker stated that the “Bridger will be a key pillar of Renault’s global competitiveness. It will be launched in India first and then supplied worldwide.” While the exact India launch timeline has not yet been announced, the model is expected to hit showrooms by late 2027. Positioned between the Kiger and Duster, the new Renault Bridger will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai facility for both domestic and export markets.

1.2L Turbo Petrol Engine

Renault has confirmed that the production-ready Bridger will be offered with a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, which will be hybrid ready. This three-cylinder petrol motor could be the same unit that powers the global-spec Renault Clio 6. While official power and torque figures for the Bridger are yet to be announced, this engine currently produces around 114bhp and 190Nm of torque.

Hybrid & Electric Options

Since the 1.2L petrol engine is hybrid ready, the compact SUV is expected to receive a strong hybrid powertrain at a later stage. Interestingly, the Bridger will also be offered with an electric powertrain. The EV version could feature a battery pack of around 40kWh, promising an estimated driving range of around 500km on a full charge. Additionally, the compact SUV is expected to support both AC and DC fast charging. The compact SUV might also get V2L (vehicle-to-load) and regenerative braking system.

RGMP Platform

The Renault Bridger compact SUV will be based on the brand’s new RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform) architecture, which also underpins the new Duster. This new platform features an advanced E&E (Electric & Electronics), co-developed with Google, enabling the integration of modern connected features and software-driven functions.

Expected Rivals

Designed and developed for India, the Renault Bridger will be part of the brand’s mid-term FutuREady strategy, which includes seven new models and two new platforms by 2030. This compact SUV is likely to rival subcompact SUVs including Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza and more.
