Renault’s First EV For India – Details Revealed

Renault announces 7 new models, multi-powertrain strategy for India. Renault Bridger to get hybrid-ready turbo engine, EV later.

Following the next-gen Duster, Renault has made headlines with the announcement of its FutuREady mid-term strategy, which includes seven new models and two new architectures for India by 2030. The carmaker has confirmed that its future lineup will consist of ICE (internal combustion engine), full hybrid and pure electric vehicles.

Renault Bridger Engine Details

Shedding light on the upcoming Renault Bridger compact SUV, the company has revealed that it will initially be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine that’s hybrid ready. Renault has also confirmed that the Bridger will also be offered with an electric powertrain, which is expected to arrive at a later stage.

The brand’s new RGMP (Renault Global Modular Platform) architecture, supporting multiple body styles and powertrains, will enable the adoption of a multi-powertrain strategy for its future models.

Expected Powertrain

As of now, there is no official word on the exact powertrain specifications. However, the production-ready Renault Bridger EV is expected to be offered with dual battery pack options, delivering a range of around 450km-500km. It could also support DC fast charging and feature V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging functionalities.

7-Seater Electric SUV – A Possibility

Renault has also planned a three-row premium SUV for the Indian market, which is expected to launch in 2027. Essentially a 7-seater Duster, it will share its platform, powertrains and features with its 5-seater sibling. The 7-seater Renault Duster will be built on the RGMP platform, allowing it to support both hybrid and electric powertrains.

Plans For Chennai Plant

To improve cost competitiveness, Renault India is aiming to achieve high localization levels of up to 90 percent with its two new platforms. This move will also reduce the brand’s dependency on global supply disruptions. Additionally, Renault plans to upgrade its Chennai facility with new technologies and resources to support both domestic and global operations.
