New Renault Bridger arriving in 2027 Honda to launch new compact SUV in 2028

The Indian compact SUV segment is all set to witness entry of “rugged” and “multi-fuel” options. Both Renault and Honda have officially revealed their roadmaps for the next two years, confirming the launch of the Renault Bridger and an all-new Honda compact SUV.

While Renault Brider will be a lifestyle SUV with rugged looks, Honda will be focusing on a high-tech return to the sub-4 meter space.

Renault Bridger: the Mini-Duster Launch in 2027

Renault India has officially announced that the production-spec Bridger compact SUV will be launched in 2027. This SUV will be marketed as a lifestyle product, and will be positioned between the Kiger and the new-gen Renault Duster. The new Bridger compact SUV will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai facility for both domestic and export markets.

The production-ready Brider will be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which will be hybrid ready. This is likely to be a 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a power and torque output of around 114bhp and 190Nm, respectively. The company will also introduce a strong hybrid version of the SUV at a later stage. Adding to it, the Bridger will be offered with an electric powertrain. The EV could feature a battery pack of around 40kWh with an estimated range of around 500km on a full charge.

Honda Compact SUV: Confirmed for 2027

New Honda compact SUV

In a major business briefing on May 14, 2026, Honda officially announced a new sub-4 meter SUV for the Indian market. The company has confirmed that the new compact SUV will be launched in early 2028. It is expected to be based on an all-new PF2 platform, which is a flexible architecture currently under the development. This architecture will be compatible with ICE, Hybrid and Electric powertrains. It is early to comment whether the new sub-4 meter SUV will come with ICE-only or hybrid powertrain. An EV derivative could also be introduced in our market.
