Production of the upcoming Skoda Kylaq subcompact SUV has commenced at the carmaker’s Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. It’s the most affordable SUV offering from the Czech automaker and the fifth Skoda to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, featuring high levels of localization. The carmaker states that the Kylaq has been “built on four broad pillars of safety, comfort, quality, and global design.” Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has further expanded its local supplier base by 10 percent, aiming to improve turnaround time and reduce the cost of ownership.
Bookings for the new Skoda compact SUV began on 2nd December, and the model has gathered 10,000 orders so far. In fact, the entry-level Classic variant, which comes with the petrol-manual combination only, has been sold out, and the carmaker has stopped accepting bookings for this particular variant. Earlier, Skoda Auto revealed that the first batch of the Kylaq will include 33,000 units, which will be handed over to customers by May. The sold-out variants will be reopened for bookings after deliveries of the first batch. Deliveries of the new Skoda compact SUV will start on 27th January 2025.
The Skoda Kylaq SUV model lineup is offered in four trims – Classic, Signature, Signature+, and Prestige. Except for the base trim, all other variants are also available with the petrol-automatic engine-gearbox combination. While the entry-level Classic petrol-manual variant is priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, the Signature, Signature+, and Prestige trims with the same engine setup are priced at Rs 9.59 lakh, Rs 11.40 lakh, and Rs 13.35 lakh, respectively. The Signature petrol-AT comes with a price tag of Rs 10.59 lakh, and the Signature+ petrol-AT is available at Rs 12.40 lakh. The top-end Prestige variant with the petrol-automatic setup is priced at Rs 14.40 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
The Skoda Kylaq SUV’s interior shares a strong resemblance with the Kushaq. It features a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, keyless entry, a single-pane sunroof, leatherette upholstery, and more. The standard safety kit of the new Skoda compact SUV includes six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, an electronic differential lock, electronic stability control, and ABS with EBD.
Skoda’s all-new compact SUV comes with a single 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine that produces 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. It is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The Kylaq is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 10.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest compact SUVs in India.
