Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) has released crash test results for the India-made Maruti Ertiga and Renault Triber. Both MPVs were crash tested under the Safer Cars for Africa Campaign, however, could not meet the safety expectations under the latest Global NCAP norms. The safety results were disappointing as the Ertiga scored 1-star and Triber received 2-star safety ratings. Moreover, both vehicles were rated as unstable and could not withstand further loadings.

In the Global NCAP crash test, the Africa-spec Ertiga received only a 1-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and a 2-star in Child Occupant Protection (COP). The Ertiga scored 23.63 points out of 34 for adult safety while the child safety test could secure only 19.40 out of 49 points.
In terms of safety features, the Ertiga comes with front & rear 3-point seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and dual front airbags. The high-end models get two more dual front airbags however, no active safety tech is provided for pedestrian safety.
This should be noted that the India-spec Ertiga scored 3-star safety ratings previously, in both adult and child occupant protection. However, the test was based on the older protocols of Global NCAP.

The made-in-India Renault Triber scored only 2-star safety ratings in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). While the adult safety could collect 22.29 points out of 34, the child safety recorded only 19.99 points out of 49.
As for the safety features, it includes four airbags, a rear parking camera, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder for front seats, and rear parking sensors. It lacks a lot of essential safety features such as the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist which are offered in the India-spec Triber.
In previous GNCAP tests conducted in 2021, the Triber received 4-star safety ratings. But again, the test was based on the previous norms under the Safer Cars for India Campaign.
