Harrier EV and XEV 9e both get 5-star Bharat NCAP safety ratings Identical adult (32/32) and child (45/49) protection scores Tata Harrier EV AWD variant prices out on June 27, 2025
Tata Motors’ latest electric SUV, the Harrier EV, has achieved a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests, placing it shoulder-to-shoulder with its direct rival, the Mahindra XEV 9e. Both SUVs offer exceptional protection for adults and children, setting a new safety benchmark for premium electric vehicles in India.

Tata Harrier EV has aced the Bharat NCAP crash test with a perfect score of 32 out of 32 points in the adult occupant protection category. This includes 16/16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 16/16 in the side movable deformable barrier test.
Tata’s premium electric SUV provided ‘good’ protection to all vital body areas including the head, chest, pelvis, thighs, and even the driver’s feet. This consistent performance across tests reflects the vehicle’s strong body structure and effective restraint systems.
In the child occupant protection test, the Harrier EV scored 45 out of 49 points, which includes 24/24 in the dynamic test, 12/12 for CRS installation, and 9/13 in vehicle assessment. It received full marks for both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies in frontal and side impact simulations.
Tata has packed the Harrier EV with a comprehensive safety suite. This includes 7 airbags (6 standard), a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, transparent bonnet view, TPMS, and parking sensors at both ends. The SUV also comes with Level 2 ADAS features, such as lane keep assist and driver attention warning, ensuring active safety support on the go.

Mahindra’s XEV 9e was the first in this segment to impress in the Bharat NCAP test earlier in January 2025. Like the Harrier EV, it also scored a full 32 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection — split evenly between frontal offset and side impact crash tests.
The XEV 9e showed excellent performance in terms of body integrity and occupant restraint. It offered full protection to the head, chest, and legs of the driver and passenger, aligning perfectly with the results achieved by the Harrier EV.
In the child safety section, the XEV 9e too scored 45 out of 49 points — 24/24 for dynamic performance, 12/12 for CRS setup, and 9/13 for vehicle features and assessment. This makes the XUV 9e just as reliable as the Harrier EV for families travelling with children.
Mahindra has also ensured the XEV 9e is loaded with cutting-edge safety features. It includes multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a robust Level 2 ADAS package, offering tech like adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and more.
With both SUVs scoring the highest possible Bharat NCAP safety rating, buyers can now choose between the Harrier EV and XEV 9e, knowing that safety is not a compromise.
The Harrier EV’s RWD variants are priced between Rs 21.49 lakh and Rs 27.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices for the AWD versions will be revealed on June 27, 2025. The XEV 9e is already on sale in multiple variants, and both cars go head-to-head in the premium electric SUV space.
