Toyota Kirloskar Motors has just launched the new Rumion MPV in India, with prices starting from Rs 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the four-wheeler is the new entry-level MPV for Toyota in the country. The made-in-India Toyota Rumion is currently being exported to markets like South Africa where it has been on sale for quite some time now.
Toyota is offering the 2023 Rumion in three trim levels, S, G and V. Prices start from Rs 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level S trim, going up to Rs 13.68 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top V automatic variant. Toyota has also commenced bookings for a token amount of Rs 11,000.
Visually, the new Toyota Rumion looks very similar to the Maruti Ertiga. The only differences are the new Toyota Innova Crysta-inspired grille and trapezoidal fog-lamp housings. It also gets new dual-tone alloy wheels. However, the rest of the side profile and rear end remains identical to the Maruti.
Moving inside, the interior of the all-new Rumion sees minimal changes. There’s a dual-tone beige and black dashboard with faux wood inserts and beige upholstery. In terms of features, the Rumion gets a 7-inch infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, connected car tech, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and more. Toyota will offer the Rumion in a 7-seat configuration only.
The Rumion is powered by a 1.5-litre N/A engine that is available in both petrol and CNG versions. The former makes 103 bhp with 137 Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the CNG version makes 88 bhp with 122 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The brand is offering a factory-fitted CNG kit only on the base S trim while all petrol trim levels except the mid-G variants get the option of the automatic gearbox.
In India, it rivals the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6, and the Kia Carens.
