The VinFast VF 3 comes with a 215 km range The MG Comet EV boasts a mileage of 230 km and comes with a 42 bhp power The VF 3 is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom
As India continues to adopt electric mobility, two new compact electric cars have come under the radar of potential buyers, with VinFast VF 3 and MG Comet EV among them. The VF 3 has made its Indian debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, and it will be a direct competitor to the MG Comet EV already in the market.
Here is a closer look at both electric cars and how they compare.
The VinFast VF 3 is an electric, 2-door small SUV. It has that box look but with a modern appearance. It sports a chrome grille bar that goes into the headlamps, blacked-out bumpers, and plastic body cladding. The VF 3 comes out either with alloy wheels or steel rims, and even farther accented is a V-shaped garnish on the tailgate.
On the other hand, MG Comet EV has a sharp futuristic and sporty design featuring sharp LED headlights, a signature star-rider grille, and a sloping roofline. The newly designed alloy wheels along with a subtle crease across the doors form the side profile. The rear features bold LED taillights, a sporty bumper, and a black diffuser and even a spoiler to give a dynamic finish.
The VinFast VF 3’s interior features a simple, functional design with an all-black theme. It seats four passengers, but access to the rear seats is made easier by folding the co-driver’s seat. The cabin has a 10-inch floating touchscreen for infotainment, offering basic features like manual AC and front power windows. While the interior design is more minimalistic compared to its competitor, the VF 3’s functional layout and practical features make it a comfortable choice for short urban commutes. In terms of safety, it is equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
The MG Comet EV takes a more modern and tech-savvy approach to its interior design. A dedicated EV platform has actually enabled MG to maximize interior space despite the relatively small footprint. The cabin delivers a premium feel as it features really high-quality materials in a light-colored theme for dashboard and upholstery that is Space Grey. The distinguishing feature inside is the dual full digital screens running at 10.25 inches apiece, an infotainment display and an instrument cluster. The Comet EV has features such as connected car technology, intelligent start/stop system, rotary gear knob, and many more. It is also equipped with safety features, which include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera with sensors, and a speed-sensing door lock.
The VinFast VF 3 has a single electric motor that generates 42.90 bhp of power and 110 Nm of torque. It has a claimed range of up to 215 km, making it suitable for urban commuting. The car accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in just 5.3 seconds and features rear-wheel drive for better handling.
MG Comet EV has a 17.3kWh lithium-ion battery, and a single charge would give a claimed range of 230 km. Permanent synchronous motor can deliver 42 bhp of power and 110 Nm of torque. The Comet EV can be charged from 10 to 80% in 5 hours but does not have fast charging capabilities. The MG Comet EV offers higher claimed range but the VF 3 is said to be much quicker off the line.
The VinFast VF 3 is likely to be priced around Rs. 10 lakh, ex-showroom. It will thus become one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the country. At this price, the VF 3 is likely to go directly against the MG Comet EV.
MG has already launched the sale of its Comet EV in India. The Comet EV is sold between Rs. 6.99 lakh and Rs. 9.36 lakh ex-showroom. Although more affordable than the VF 3, the Comet EV offers a competitive range and an array of advanced features for the price.
