German automaker Mercedes-Benz has just revealed the facelifted GLE SUV globally today. In addition to the mild exterior and interior refresh, the Three-Pointed-Star manufacturer has also added plug-in hybrid powertrain options with the update. We take a closer look at all the changes made to the premium SUV.

The New GLE gets an updated front end with a new single-slat grille, redesigned LED headlight units and a slightly more aggressive bumper with bigger air dams. Its side profile stays the same as the current GLE while the rear features a revised bumper and LED taillights. Overall, a very minimal exterior update.
Talking about the interior layout, it remains more or less the same. Key changes to the cabin include a new steering wheel with touch sensitive controls, the second-gen MBUX software and infotainment system featuring dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some of the upgraded driver assistance equipment available on the SUV include Steering Assist, Active Distance Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. Rest the GLE will continue to come packed with features like an audio setup from Burmester, a HUD, 360-degree Parking Pilot, powered seats with memory function, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and more.

The automaker has electrified the entire powertrain lineup for the GLE with all motors getting a 48V mild-hybrid set-up. The GLE 400e plug-in hybrid is the new addition, which gets a 2-litre 4-pot turbo petrol motor that is paired to a single electric motor and a 31.2-kWh battery pack. Mercedes-Benz claims an electric-only range of 109 kms.
Moving to the AMG models, the GLE 63 continues with the 4-litre V8 engine that delivers 603 bhp while the GLE 53’s turbo 6-cylinder motor gets an updated turbocharger. Combined with software tweaks, the GLE 53 makes the same 429 brake horsepower but gets a torque boost of 40 Nm which makes the overall number stand at 560 Nm.

Mercedes-Benz GLE Facelift is expected to go on sale by the end of this year, and will be sold as a 2024 model. Upon launch, it will compete against the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Volvo XC90 and the Lexus RX in its segment.
