With the new BS6 Phase II Emission Norms coming into effect in India from April 1, Kia Motors India is believed to have just updated the Seltos, Carens and the Sonet. While the automaker is yet to announce official prices, we take a look at what’s new in the three models.
Kia has discontinued the diesel manual variants of the Seltos. The automaker has also stopped offering the turbo-petrol option for now. If you want to buy a new Seltos now, you can only opt for the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol or the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. The former is paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic while the diesel now gets a new 6-speed iMT option alongside the 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Seltos is due for a mid-life facelift soon which will see the SUV getting a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of delivering a power output of 160 bhp with 253 Nm of peak torque. The motor recently debuted in the Hyundai Alcazar and is also going to be offered in the Next-Gen Hyundai Verna.
Kia Carens is now being offered with a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which replaces the older 1.4-litre turbo unit. The new motor pumps out 160 bhp with 253 Nm of peak torque and will be paired with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Additionally, the manufacturer no longer offers manual options for the turbo-petrol or diesel variants, with the latter also getting the 6-speed iMT gearbox. Only the entry-level naturally aspirated petrol engine is offered with a manual transmission now.
Unlike the Seltos or Carens, the Sonet only gets updates to its diesel variants. Till now, the 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit was offered in two states of tune, 115 bhp (automatic) and 100 bhp (manual). With the latest update, both options now offer a power output of 115 bhp. The company is believed to have discontinued the diesel manual variants of the Sonet, being replaced by a 6-speed iMT. As for the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1-litre turbo-petrol variants there is no change.
