Mahindra Thar Roxx is soon to arrive in the Indian market. Ahead of the official launch on August 15, the brand has teased the 5-door model, revealing its exterior and modern interior features over its 3-door counterpart. Not only in terms of features, the lifestyle SUV will also receive an enhanced safety kit and powerful engines, sourced from Scorpio N.
Curious to know about the Unique Selling Points (USPs) of the Thar Roxx? Here is the list of premium features that the new Thar will offer.
When the Mahindra Thar Roxx spied, it featured a single-pane sunroof while the latest teaser released by Mahindra confirmed a panoramic sunroof. This clearly indicates that the lower variants of the 5-door Thar could get a single-pane sunroof and the panoramic unit could be available in the top-spec models.
The 5-door Roxx will be the fourth big SUV to be on sale alongside Thar, Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, and the XUV700. Till now, the Scorpio N has been considered the most advanced and powerful model in the Mahindra's SUV lineup. The upcoming Roxx will source the same platform and powerful engines used in Scorpio N.
Based on the ladder-frame chassis, the Thar Roxx will most likely use a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel (117 bhp), 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (200 bhp), and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel (172 bhp). These powertrain options could be mated with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The 3-door Thar owners always struggle while opening the fuel lid. An individual has to use a key to manually open the fuel lid. However, Mahindra has addressed this issue with the launch of the 5-door Roxx. It will get an electric fuel lid opener. This button will be positioned on the control panel which is located on the right side of the steering wheel.
The current Thar model comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. However, with the launch of its 5-door sibling, Mahindra will offer a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity. Expect more advanced connectivity features than the 3-door Thar.
Another important change to the new Roxx is the addition of a digital driver display. The previous sightings have confirmed that the 5-door Roxx will receive a fully digital driver's display on the top-spec models. However, it would be available in the top-spec variants; the lower variant could receive a semi-digital driver's display. Compared to this, the 3-door version has an analogue setup with a coloured MID in the centre.

The dual-zone climate control feature is usually seen on Mahindra's premium SUVs like Scorpio N and XUV700. The homegrown automaker will now introduce the dual-zone climate control on bigger Thar which is missing in its smaller counterpart. In addition, the 5-door Roxx could also receive the rear AC vents to give more comfort to the rear seat passengers.
One more feature for better comfort and convenience would be the inclusion of the armrests. The current Thar model lacks this feature, however, the Thar Roxx will introduce both the front and the rear centre armrest. It is also likely to get bench seats for the second row.
Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door will get a boost in safety for its passengers. It will now offer six airbags as a standard to comply with the government's safety kit mandate. Meanwhile, the current model only gets dual front airbags.
The test mule of the Thar Roxx was spotted multiple times, indicating at its rear disc brakes. However, it is believed that the 5-door Thar could get all-four disc brakes, adopted from the XUV400 EV
We previously spotted a test mule of the Thar Roxx with rear disc brakes, suggesting the production model might include them. The Mahindra XUV400 EV also features four disc brakes, which the Thar Roxx could adopt from the EV.
Another safety addition to the 5-door Thar is the 360-degree camera. This will make it easier and convenient for the driver to manoeuvre in tight parking.
The safety does not stop here; Mahindra will also introduce its reverse camera with front parking sensors on its 5-door Thar. These front parking sensors are not available on the 3-door Thar.
