Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of its first in-house hybrid model, the Maruti Fronx Hybrid, which is expected to hit the Indian market in 2027. Initially slated for 2026, this delay comes as Maruti faces challenges in fitting its new series hybrid powertrain into the compact Fronx crossover. Here’s everything we know so far about the Fronx Hybrid.

Maruti Fronx Hybrid will be equipped with Maruti’s new series hybrid powertrain. This will include a 1.2L Z12, three-cylinder petrol engine, a battery pack between 1.5-2kWh, and an electric motor. Unlike traditional hybrids, the petrol engine in the Fronx hybrid will act only as a generator that produces electricity for the motor. The electric motor will drive the wheels, resulting in smoother performance and improved fuel efficiency, especially in city traffic.
Maruti’s series hybrid system will be a cost-effective alternative to Toyota’s Atkinson hybrid system, which is found in the Grand Vitara and Invicto. Unlike Toyota's hybrid setup, which uses a more complex system, Maruti’s approach is designed for its mass-market models, offering a simpler and more affordable solution for everyday buyers. This will allow models like the Fronx, Baleno, and Swift to compete in the growing hybrid segment without a hefty price tag.
While the exact price of the Maruti Fronx Hybrid is still under wraps, it is expected to be slightly higher than the petrol variant, making it an affordable entry in the hybrid crossover segment. We expect the Fronx Hybrid price to be around Rs 10-12 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and features.
Maruti Fronx Hybrid mileage is expected to be impressive, with figures ranging from 20-25 kmpl, thanks to its efficient hybrid powertrain. This makes the Fronx hybrid an ideal choice for daily commuters looking to save on fuel costs, especially with rising petrol prices.
The Maruti Fronx Hybrid launch date has been pushed to 2027 from the initially expected 2026. This delay is mainly due to challenges in fitting the hybrid components into the compact crossover’s space. However, the extra time will allow Maruti to refine the hybrid technology, ensuring that the Fronx Hybrid offers a seamless and efficient driving experience for Indian buyers.
Maruti is not just focusing on the Fronx Hybrid. The brand is also planning to introduce a new hybrid MPV by 2029, which will be based on the Suzuki Solio. This MPV, codenamed YVF, will likely feature premium features such as powered sliding doors and will compete with vehicles like the Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. It will offer an affordable hybrid option in the family vehicle segment.
