Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be the first-ever electric SUV from the Indo-Japanese automaker in India. It’s a midsize electric SUV based on the Maruti eVX concept, underpinned by the brand’s newly developed electric Heartect-e platform. It will be Maruti Suzuki’s answer to the Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV, along with the upcoming Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta EV. The Maruti e-Vitara is set to make its India debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Show in January. The Auto Expo is scheduled to begin on 17th January in New Delhi and conclude on 22nd January.
The electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be launched in the market in March. The carmaker’s Gujarat manufacturing facility will serve as the production hub for the EV, catering to both domestic and global markets. In June, Suzuki will introduce its first EV to the European markets.
The carmaker has confirmed that the e-Vitara electric SUV will be available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, paired with a front-axle-mounted single electric motor as standard. These batteries are imported from BYD, the world-renowned EV manufacturer. The 49kWh battery is claimed to deliver 144bhp, while the 61kWh battery produces 174bhp. Both configurations generate a maximum torque of 189Nm.
Buyers will also have the option to choose the 61kWh battery with a dual electric motor and AllGrip-e AWD setup. This system, with an additional 65bhp electric motor, provides a combined output of 184bhp and 300Nm of torque. While the e-Vitara's official range figures are yet to be revealed, the higher-spec version is expected to offer a range exceeding 500 km on global test cycles.
The e-Vitara will be one of the most feature-packed Maruti Suzuki cars in India. Its interior layout and design are completely different from existing Maruti models. It features a floating dual-screen setup for the infotainment and instrument functionalities. The dashboard and floating centre console come with a gloss-black finish. The two-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, rotary drive selector, and rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds add to its modern appeal. The electric SUV is equipped with semi-fabric and semi-leatherette upholstery.
In terms of features, the new Maruti electric SUV includes a wireless phone charger, heated mirrors, single-zone automatic climate control, hill descent control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality, adjustable headrests, and a split-folding rear seat arrangement, among others.
Similar to the globally showcased model, the India-spec Maruti e-Vitara is likely to come with an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite, offering features such as lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. If implemented, the e-Vitara will become the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India to feature these advanced safety technologies.
