JSW MG Motor India has firmly established itself in the Indian electric car market, thanks to the massive success of the MG Windsor EV and the popular BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) pricing model. However, other models like the MG Comet EV and ZS EV have not performed as well. Reports suggest that MG plans to replace both the ZS EV and Astor with new models around 2027. The newly revealed MG 4X could be a fitting replacement for the ZS EV in India.

The replacement for the ZS EV has been speculated for some time. Earlier, the MG ES5 was believed to take that position. Now, the MG 4X has been revealed ahead of its global debut at the Auto China Show in Beijing next month.
Dimensionally, the MG 4X measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,551 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Its immediate competitor is the BYD Atto 2, and while MG 4X is longer and wider, Atto 2 is taller. Within the MG4 family, it is positioned below the MG S5 and MG ES5.
The MG 4X shares many design elements with its family members like MG S5 and MG ES5, especially from the rear and side profiles. The front fascia features a connected LED light bar, stylish LED headlamps, sporty bumper with black highlights, and bold MG branding.
From the side, it has a premium crossover SUV silhouette with a neat chrome window line, dual-tone machined alloy wheels, and conventional door handles. The charging port is positioned on the rear left quarter panel, while the rear features connected LED tail lamps. The interiors of the MG 4X are yet to be revealed.
Speculations suggest that the MG 4X may feature a semi-solid-state battery pack, which offers enhanced safety. The battery size is expected to be around 53.95 kWh, with a claimed range of 510 km on a single charge, according to the CLTC cycle.
At launch, it is likely to be a front-wheel-drive, single-motor SUV, which aligns with the size and battery capacity of the current ZS EV, fueling speculation that it could make it to India under JSW MG Motor.
More details about the MG 4X will be revealed at the Auto China Show in Beijing next month, including full specifications and interior details.
