MG’s First Hybrid SUV Launching This Diwali – Bigger Than XUV 7XO?

MG’s first plug-in hybrid SUV launching this Diwali. It could be MG’s rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV.

JSW MG Motor India has confirmed its entry into the plug-in hybrid segment by October, 2026. Codenamed 520, the upcoming PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) is expected to be positioned against the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Mahindra XEV 9S. Ahead of its Diwali launch, the carmaker has patented the design of the Wuling Starlight 560 SUV, which is likely to be introduced in India with a new identity under the MG brand.

Powertrain Specifications

Globally, the Starlight 560 is available with both plug-in hybrid and electric powertrain options. The PHEV version features a 1.5L petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack, delivering a combined power output of 197bhp and 230Nm of torque.

The EV model comes equipped with a 56.7kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor that’s good enough for 136bhp and 200Nm. As per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), the SUV offers up to 100km electric-only range for the PHEV and up to 500km driving range in the fully electric version.

Interior & Features

The Wuling Starlight 560 (likely to be sold as the MG Starlight 560 in India) offers a minimalist, dual-tone interior layout. A 12.8-inch centre touchscreen system instantly grab attention, while an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display is placed behind the two-spoke steering wheel. Most vehicle functions can be controlled through the touchscreen, while essential controls are accessible via physical buttons on the steering wheel, centre console and door armrests.

The SUV also comes equipped with several advanced features such as a 6-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, OTA (over-the-air) updates, 4G connected car tech, multiple airbags, rear parking sensors and camera, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and more.

Longer & More Spacious Than XUV 7XO?

Starlight 560 Dimensions

Dimensionally, the MG Starlight 560 is expected as big as its donor model, which measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,755mm in height. The SUV has a 2,810mm long wheelbase. If these dimensions remain unchanged for the India-bound model, the new MG plug-in hybrid SUV will be 50mm longer than the Mahindra XUV 7XO and has a 60mm longer wheelbase.
