Maruti Suzuki is making big moves to increase its production in India. The company has announced plans to expand its Gujarat factory by adding a fourth production line, which will be ready by July 2026. Along with this, the Kharkhoda plant will also begin operations in May 2026. Together, these changes will add an extra 5 lakh units to Maruti's production capacity by the end of the year.

e Vitara Gets a Big Boost in Production

The biggest beneficiary of this expansion will be the e Vitara, Maruti’s new electric SUV. Currently, production at the Gujarat plant is limited to about 2,000-2,500 units a month. This includes both local sales and exports, as well as units sent to Toyota, which sells the e Vitara as the Urban Cruiser Ebella. With the added production capacity, Maruti will be able to make more units of the e Vitara, which was recently launched in India starting at Rs 15.99 lakh (introductory ex-showroom).

The increase in production will also allow the company to export the e Vitara to international markets where electric vehicles are becoming more popular.

In addition to the upgrades at its existing plants, Maruti has big plans for the future. The company has already acquired land in Gujarat for a second plant, which is expected to start production by FY 2029.
