New Maruti Suzuki Swift - Top 5 things to watch out for

As its launch approaches, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift has become even more appealing with its new set of upgrades. Suzuki has preserved the car’s overall silhouette despite changes throughout. From refreshed bits on the outside to a brand-new engine under the hood, here’s everything that has been revamped in the fourth-generation Swift:

Changes on the outside

On the outside, it looks largely the same as the Europe-spec model. Swept-back headlights are continued though L-shaped DRLs are new. As an addition, fog lamps are placed beside the splitter for the domestic market. The rear door handle has been repositioned and is now located on the door.

Its C-pillar has been finished in glossy black and the rear profile has been reworked as well. High-mounted stop lamp is present on the spoiler. Then there are the rear tail lights that have C-shaped DRLs, below which the new bumper sits that has reverse parking sensors embedded. New machined alloy wheels are to be offered too.

Dimensions

At 3,860 mm, the new Swift hatchback is longer by 15 mm and stands shorter than the outgoing model by 30 mm. It has become thinner in width helping it to easily ply through tight spaces and traffic. In terms of wheel-space, the 2,450 mm HEARTECT architecture is continued. Boot space has been slightly trimmed down by 3 litres. While the Swift sold in the UK has a ground clearance ranging from 115 mm to 140 mm, it may differ for the domestic market.

Revamped interior

The interior heavily shares features and components that are reminiscent of the Nexa-branded Fronx and Baleno, taking the luxury quotient up a notch. Equipment list includes a sound system setup powered by Arkamys, 9-inch touchscreen unit with both Android and iOS wireless connectivity, head-up display, wireless phone charging, cruise control and rear AC vents.

Safety tech

The list of safety features includes six airbags as standard across trims, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution system and a hill start assist. Notably, the India-bound five-seater car scored four stars in the Japanese NCAP test in April.

Under the hood

Change has been most significant at the heart of the matter. With the 2024 Swift, Suzuki will debut its Z-series 1.2-litre engine that will be paired with a mild hybrid system to enhance fuel efficiency. The Bharat Stage 6-compliant engine comes with a cylinder less at 3 cylinders, usually done to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

Power (bhp) and torque (Nm) figures, as a result, have significantly fallen to 82 (from 88.5) and 108 (from 113), respectively. If reports are to be believed, the new Swift will be able to clock up to 25.72 kilometres in a litre of petrol with the addition of hybrid technology. For reference, the current Swift returns an ARAI mileage of 22.38 kmpl.
