The Korean automaker, Kia is planning to introduce a wide range of new utility vehicles in the Indian market over the period of next 1 year. The company has already announced to introduce its all-new compact SUV, called the Kia Syros, on December 19, 2024. Adding to it, the company will give a mid-life update to the popular Carens MPV. Let's talk about top 4 upcoming Kia utility vehicles to be launched in the country in 2025.
Scheduled to make global debut on December 19, 2024, the new Kia Syros SUV will go on sale in the country in 2025. To be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the new Syros SUV will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV. Kia has already released multiple teasers, revealing key details on styling and interior features.
The interior teasers reveal that the new Syros will have new two-spoke steering, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument console, a wireless smartphone charger, and others. The SUV will also receive ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera and a front-parking sensor. Adding to it, the SUV will get Seltos-like Terrain modes including Mud, Snow/Wet, and Sand.
It is likely to be offered with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Entry-level variants could be offered with the 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol engine. An electric derivative of the SUV is also under development, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2025-26.
First launched in 2019, the Seltos has been the best-seller for the Korean brand. The SUV will enter the second-generation in India in 2025. In fact, the new-gen Kia Seltos has been caught testing on the Indian roads. It is likely to be based on the same platform as the current model. However, the styling of the SUV will be completely new and will be inline with new breed of Kia cars including the EV5. The new model is likely to be offered with the same 1.5L turbo petrol, 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel engines. However, an hybrid version could also join the line-up at a later stage. It could get a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a strong hybrid tech.
The Korean automaker is testing the updated Carens on the Indian roads. It is reportedly to be launched in our market by mid-2025. The updated model will receive several design changes including a completely re-styled front and rear. Adding to it, the cabin is likely to be changed and will look similar to the Sonet or Seltos. The Kia Carens MPV could also receive a 360-degree surround view camera and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite. It is likely to be offered with the same set of powertrains including a 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 1.5L turbo petrol.
The big news is that Kia is also planning to launch an electric derivative of the Carens MPV in the Indian market. In fact, the Kia Carens EV has been spotted testing on the Indian roads. The overall styling will be similar to the Carens facelift; however, it will get EV-specific design changes such as blanked-off grille and new aero wheels. It is likely to be packed with a 45kWh battery pack coupled with an electric motor. The electric MPV is expected to offer a range of up to 500km on a single charge.
The Korean brand is also developing a new compact electric SUV, which is rumoured to be based on the Kia Syros. It is expected to be introduced by the end of next year or early 2026. The new model could be called the Kia Clavis, as the name has been trademarked by the Korean brand in India. The new model will look similar to the Syros; however, significant EV-specific changes are expected on offer. It could receive an all-new front design with a blanked-off grille, new headlamp setup, aero wheels and others. The new model could share the battery pack and electric motor with the upcoming Carens EV.
