The next-generation Mahindra Bolero is getting ready for launch in the coming months. It will feature a completely new exterior and interior, giving the popular SUV a fresh and modern appeal while keeping its rugged DNA intact.
By mid-August, Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to unveil four new concept models along with an all-new platform. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the next-gen Bolero could make an appearance during this event.
The next-gen Bolero has been seen testing in India in a close-to-production guise. The SUV maintains its upright stance, paired with a slightly swooping bonnet and squared-off wheel arches.
Design highlights include:
- New grille with vertical slats
- Circular LED headlamps with DRLs
- Dual-tone alloy wheels
- Thicker body cladding for a tougher look
Inside, the prototype shows a Scorpio N-inspired steering wheel and a reworked dashboard to fit a touchscreen infotainment system. A revised centre console will also be part of the cabin changes, offering a more premium feel than before.
Mahindra has not confirmed the engine specifications for the new Bolero, but it is expected to use the Bolero Neo’s engine, which runs on a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel unit. This can produce the power of around 99 bhp, paired with a manual gearbox.
For the next-gen model, Mahindra could also use the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel from the Thar three-door and XUV 3XO. This will offer better performance and improved drivability.
The upcoming Bolero is expected to be positioned above the current Bolero Neo. Mahindra may even introduce a new suffix to distinguish it.
Given the Bolero’s over 20 years of market success, it is likely that the current version will be sold alongside the new model. The next-gen body-on-frame SUV is expected to compete with midsize monocoque SUVs in terms of both road presence and value.
