Nissan's Hyundai Creta Rival SUV - What To Expect

Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan is currently selling the Magnite compact SUV in the Indian market. The company had announced to launch 3 new cars including two SUVs in the country in FY2026. Nissan will launch a new mid-sized SUV, which will come as a replacement for the Kicks. Moreover, a 7-seater SUV will also arrive in our market. The Japanese brand is also developing a new mass-market electric vehicle.

Nissan mid-sized SUV - What to Expect?

The new Nissan mid-sized SUV will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-B modular platform, which currently underpins the new-gen Renault Duster and Dacia Bigster. The platform will be heavily localized for the Indian market. The third-gen Renault Duster will also arrive in our market in 2026. Both SUVs will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance's production facility in Oragadam, Chennai, India.

The new Nissan mid-sized SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder and others in the category. While testing of the new SUV is yet to start, Nissan had revealed a teaser image of the upcoming compact SUV. The teaser gave us a glimpse of the SUV's front fascia, housing a full-width LED daytime running lamps and a chunky bumper.

This SUV will also have a 7-seater derivative, which will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and others in the category. Renault will also launch a new 7-seater SUV based on the Duster. It is most likely to be the 7-seater derivative of the Bigster SUV on sale in select international markets.

Despite sharing platform with the new Duster, the Nissan's mid-sized SUV will carry its unique identity in terms of design and interior. The cabin will have different dashboard layout, but features will be shared with the third-gen Duster. It is likely to get a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, a 7-inch digital instrument console, powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, and others.

The new Nissan mid-sized SUV is likely to be offered with two engine options - a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol. Both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options are likely on offer.
