Skoda is preparing to launch new cars with greater vision in India. The recently-held Auto Expo witnessed a range of Skoda cars including Kodiaq, Octavia RS, Elroq, and Vision 7S concept, which is expected to launched as Skoda Space in 2027. Among this, Enyaq had gained much attention from viewers in India. In fact, Skoda is most likely to launch this electric car in India.
Petr Janeba, Škoda India Brand Director has also confirmed to launch their first EV by September 2025. However, it is unsure if that EV will be Enyaq or Elroq. The final call is yet to be taken.
The Elroq, Enyaq, and Enyaq Coupe, these cars are based on the MEB platform. The brand has not revealed that which of these three cars will come to India. This can be decided based on the EV policy, which will be announcement by Government in March 2025.
The EV policy announced last year aimed to lower import duties to 15 percent for a limited number of EVs priced at$35,000 or more, but only if carmakers invest Rs. 4,150 crore and set up a manufacturing unit in India. Otherwise, the import duty remains high at 70-100 percent. The policy also required companies to meet certain localisation targets.
Therefore, the government is currently reviewing a revised version of this policy, with final guidelines expected by next month after discussions with industry stakeholders.
