Tata Motors has brought the four-wheel drive technology back into its SUV lineup with the new Harrier EV. This marks the brand’s return to QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) after more than five years, the last being the Safari Storme, which was discontinued in April 2020 following the rollout of BS6 emission norms.
The new Harrier EV features a Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) with a dual-motor setup — one motor on each axle — delivering superior grip, stability, and control, especially on rough terrains.

Tata Motors expects the QWD-equipped Harrier EV to make up nearly 20 percent of total Harrier EV sales. This is an ambitious goal, considering that 4x4 variants in traditional petrol or diesel vehicles usually make up a much smaller share of overall sales. The company believes that the instant torque and faster power delivery of electric motors will attract more buyers to this advanced drivetrain.
Tata Harrier EV QWD variant comes with a larger 75kWh battery pack, which delivers a claimed range of up to 627km on a full charge. This setup not only addresses the issue of range anxiety for EV buyers but also brings thrilling performance, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds.
Tata Motors has launched the Harrier EV at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh for the base 65kWh variant. While pricing for the more powerful 75kWh QWD variants is yet to be announced, it is expected to be revealed soon.
