The Sierra EV will see a market release in the H2, 2025. It will compete with the BYD Atto 3, and Mahindra XEV 9e. This electric SUV will underpin Tata’s new Acti.ev platform. It range is expected to around 500km on a single charge.
The iconic Tata Sierra nameplate is making a comeback in an all-new avatar in the second half of this year. The indigenous automaker has confirmed that the Sierra will feature a new design language, updated architecture, an upmarket and tech-loaded interior, and an electric powertrain. We have already seen its concept and near-production versions, along with numerous spy images and videos. That’s why we have a substantial amount of information about the upcoming Tata Sierra EV. Let’s take a closer look at the details.

The Sierra EV will be designed on the new Acti.ev platform, which also underpins the Punch EV and Curvv EV. It’s essentially the brand’s Gen2 EV architecture with an optimized battery pack design offering multiple range options, from 300 km to 600 km. The platform supports AWD, RWD, and FWD drivetrain systems.
Tata has confirmed that the new Acti.ev platform is compatible with 7.2 kW to 11 kWh on-board chargers for AC fast charging and up to 150 kW DC fast charging. This architecture also maximizes cabin space and storage, featuring a flat floor, no transmission tunnel, and an additional frunk. It is claimed to have a lower center of gravity, which enhances the vehicle’s driving dynamics and handling.

Tata has remained tight-lipped about the powertrain details. However, the new Sierra EV is likely to feature a 60 kWh battery pack, along with single and dual electric motor options. The dual-motor version could include an AWD (all-wheel drive) system as an option. Its range is expected to be around 500 km on a single charge.
Interestingly, the Tata Sierra will also be introduced with petrol and diesel engine options, utilizing the brand’s new 1.5L Hyperion turbo and 2.0L motors, respectively. Unlike its electric iteration, the SUV’s ICE-powered model will be based on the ALTAS platform.
The Sierra’s design will be entirely different from the original Sierra. However, it will retain some classic design elements, such as the black C and D-pillars, curvy rear windows, and a large rear glass area. The new Tata electric SUV boasts a tall stance and features trapezoidal headlamp clusters, an upright and flatter nose, prominent wheel arches, gloss black cladding around the body, roof rails, large rear quarter glass, and full-width LED taillamps, as seen in the concept. There will also be an ‘EV’ badge on the front door.
The interior of the Sierra EV will have a futuristic layout. Reports suggest that the SUV will be offered in a standard 5-seat configuration as well as a 4-seat lounge version. The lounge variant will include wider, contoured rear seats that provide ample legroom and an extendable leg support or ottoman function. These seats will be able to slide fore and aft, ensuring seating flexibility and plenty of boot space.
A large free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster will take the centre stage on the dashboard. The SUV will feature a twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with an illuminated logo. The lounge version is expected to come with features such as an electric sunroof, ambient mood lighting, individual screens for rear-seat occupants, and a Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.
As far as pricing is concerned, the Sierra EV is expected to start at Rs 25 lakh for the base variant. The fully-loaded top variant might be priced as high as Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
