The all-new Tata Sierra SUV is one of the most anticipated car launches of this year for the multiple reasons. The model not only holds nostalgic value, but represents modern design approach and technological advancement. The original Sierra, launched in 1990s, was one of India’s first lifestyle SUVs, featuring a three-door design and fixed rear glass panels. Bringing back the Sierra nameplate will certainly attract SUV enthusiasts who have been waiting for its return.
Unlike the OG Sierra, the SUV’s new model will have a proper 5-door layout with Tata’s new Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Furthermore, it will be offered with multiple engine options – petrol, diesel and electric. The older model was offered only with the diesel engines.
The new Tata Sierra, which was showcased in its final production version at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, will be offered with the 1.5L turbo petrol and 2.0L diesel engines. While the gasoline unit delivers a maximum power of 170bhp with 280Nm of torque, the latter offers 170bhp with 350Nm.
Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The Sierra ICE version could be offered with the AWD (all-wheel drive) option. The powertrain details of the Sierra EV are still under the wraps. Though, it is expected to come with multiple battery packs, offering a range over 500km.
The production-ready Tata Sierra retains the original high-set bonnet, squarish wheel arches and the curved-over rear side windows. The SUV’s ICE version will be built on the ALTAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle) platform, while the Sierra EV will underpin the Acti.ev architecture.
The Sierra SUV will have three screens setup inside the cabin – a central and passenger side infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. The official feature list is yet to be revealed, but the SUV is expected to come with an extensive range of advanced features such as:
